Tamihere given seat on MTS board

In a surprise birthday present for Maori Television, the electoral college Te Putahi Paoho has put urban Maori advocate John Tamihere on the board.
Board chair Georgina te Heuheu says the former cabinet minister is a highly capable and talented individual who brings an impressive array of skills to the job from his experience in law, business and the public sector, as well as his work as a broadcaster.
He replaces Whanau a Apanui leader and Maori language and culture expert Rikirangi Gage, who served two terms.
Mrs te Heuheu says the next three years will be particularly important as Maori Television tries to grow its audience and shift to digital platforms.
She says Maori Television’s role in promoting and protecting te reo Maori is best achieved through the transmission of entertaining and engaging content delivered across multiple platforms.
