Closing gap on health and welfare a tech winner
The chief executive of Whanau Tahu, Stephen Keung, says the technology developed by the company to support Te Whanau o Waipareira’s health and social programmes has huge commercial potential internationally.
Whanau Tahi Navigator is now used by most whanau ora providers and there have also been sales of software and services to Australia, Singapore and the United States.
Mr Keung says because the developers worked closely with Waipareira kaimahi and their cleintes, they came up with a product that really does help whanau meet their needs.
He says the key to success is the way helps providers close the gap between health and social services.
"Twenty percent of healthy outcomes is related to clinical. The other 80 percent is around social behaviour and environment and those sorts of things so there is a huge recognition of that and we hope to participate in the US on that in particular," Mr Keung says.
The selection of Whanau Tahi as a finalist in the Maori innovation section of the 2016 New Zealand Hi Tech Awards is welcome recognition of the support Waipareira has put into developing the company.
