Too late to post flag vote so drop it in
Voters are getting the hurry-up for the first referendum on the New Zealand flag.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Robert Peden, says it’s too late to mail in voting papers, and people now need to drop them off at a Postshop before close of business Friday.
As of Tuesday just over 1.2 million voting papers had been received by the Electoral Commission, representing 39.62 percent of enrolled voters.
The first referendum requires people to rank five alternative flag designs, with the most preferred to be put up against the current flag in a second referendum in March.
Polling firm Horizon Research says the most likely winner of the first referendum is the silver fern design in either the black, white and blue or red, white and blue variant.
But is says only 34 percent of respondents want a flag change.
