Positive language at healing hui

More than 1500 delegates from over 10 countries are in Hamilton for the seventh Healing Our Spirit Worldwide indigenous health conference.
Dr Kahu McClintock from Maori health workforce development organisation Te Rau Matatini says there’s a full programme of speeches, workshops, presentations from the various nations, and site visits.
She says the kaupapa is about indigenous people talking about their own solutions and avoiding the deficit language that characterises health conferences.
"It’s about fulfilling indigenous futures, potential, solutions and leadership so no more do we talk about loss of language, no more do we talk about a loss, but we talk about we have the solutions within our own hands, we are doing that, self determination and we are doing it as indigenous people," Dr McClintock says.
