Mana munching a trip to Mars

Ngapuhi claimant Dover Samuels says he has more chance of getting to Mars than seeing a settlement of his claim settled if tribal leaders continue to fight for their own mana.
Claim negotiating body Tuhoronuku is currently trying to bring the tribe together after a Waitangi Tribunal report criticised the way the crown dealt with hapu when granting it a mandate.
The former MP says the tribunal has created unrealistic expectations and fuelled personality politics.
He says there is no way the crown will settle the claims on a hapu by hapu basis, and leaders need to stop mana munching.
"Every day our mokopuna are missing out. Every day our mokopuna are getting further and further away from the benefit of any settlement in this era. So I think all those involved in all this personalities should put aside their difference and on behalf of Ngapuhi look at the benefits Ngapuhi will get if they get on with the claims process," Mr Samuels says.
He says there is no way anyone can expect unanimous agreement out of Ngapuhi.
