Whaingaroa taonga on display
One of the largest family collections of early Maori artefacts goes on display at Raglan Museum tomorrow.
The taonga were found at Te Horea, the north head of Whaingaroa or Raglan Harbour, by Keith Bird and his family, who started farming the land in the 1940s.
Museum president Roger Gallagher says Horea has always been a desirable place to live, with sites dating back to before 1250 when moas were last seen in the area.
Museum volunteers have worked with Mr Bird's children and Ngati Tahinga to select the best ot the 2000-item collection and to tell the story of the artefacts and the people who made them.
