The Maori Language Commission Te Taura Whiri has teamed up with Maori research organisation Nga Pae o Te Maramatanga to offer five new scholarships for post-graduate research.

Taura Whiri chief executive Ngahiwi Apanui says the Kia Ita scholarships for masters students will be worth $10,000 each.

He says the research should increase the body of evidence which is needed to inform Maori language revitalisation efforts.

The scholarship is open to Maori students who would be enrolled in a recognised Masters programme of study and research at a tertiary institution in New Zealand and are completing their thesis or dissertation in English on Maori language revitalisation or on any subject written in Te Reo Maori.

Applications close on November 2.
