Optimism around Waikato Maori education

Education Minister Hekia Parata is optimistic that good things will come from a hui she's held with Maori education leaders in the Waikato.
Hekia Parata says the hui on establishing Communities of Schools where they will work together, attended by 9 kura and Waikato-Tainui leaders, was very positive.
She was very impressed with the how focused they were with raising educational achievement for all young people across their rohe and left the meeting feeling significant progress had been made.
Hekia Parata says its now over to the people themselves whether they take up the Community of Schools proposal which would see the kura getting extra resoucres.
She says kura have long been behaving as a community and the proposal would formalise that facilitating their ability to development their own cirricula around Waikato-Tainui's own kaupapa.
