Wananga magic on show
Communications staff from Te Wananga o Aotearoa's Auckland region have been going through 16,000 images to find about 40 that best celebrate the faces and places of the wananga in Te Ihu Takiwa.
Organiser Nate Scurr says he's been privileged to record the magic moments that happen throughout the year, from what happens in the classroom and noho marae to the pride felt by students and their whanau on graduation.
"We've got a lot of photos from our Waitangi celebrations, interactions between generations, some of those are very commanding as images and we have gone to the trouble of blowing them up to A0 format which is almost the size of a door," he says.
As well as the printed images there will be a digital loop of all the graduations of the past five years where more than 20,000 students received their certificates, diplomas and degrees.
The exhibition opens on Monday at Te Te Wananga o Aotearoa's Nga Hau Mangere Campus, and it will be accompanied by seminars on Tane Rakau Ora and Matariki & Maori design, as well as an evening of Maori short films on Thursday the 23rd.
