Dark Horse wows US audiences
International film audiences continue to respond to Cliff Curtis’s portrayal of speed chess champion Genesis Poutini, with the Te Arawa and Ngati Hauiti picking up the Best Actor award at the Seattle International Film Festival.
He beat Sir Ian McKellen and Jason Segel for the gong.
His film The Dark Horse was also named Best Film.
Seattle is the largest and most well-attended film festival in North America, and more than 90-thousand votes were submitted by audience members.
Last month, The Dark Horse won the Peoples Choice Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival was second in the audience awards at FilmFest DC in Washington.
It screens at the Los Angeles Film Festival on Saturday before it goes into general release in cinemas across America.
