Lead research roles shared around
Otago University is set to take a greater role in Maori research under a reconfigured Nga Pae o Te Maramatanga.
As part of the set-up for receiving five years more funding from the Tertiary Education Commission, the Maori centre for research excellence will continue to be hosted by Auckland University.
But the job of director will be split between Auckland Associate Professor of Sociology Tracey McIntosh and Otago Associate Law Professor Jacinta Ruru.
Deputy directors will be Dr Emma Wyeth from Otago’s preventive and social medicine team and Dr Jamie Ataria from Lincoln University.
Associate Professor Ruru says Otago has a great opportunity to become a Nga Pae o te Maramatanga hub that will contribute towards Maori research excellence, built the capacity of Maori researchers and connect with Maori communities and iwi partners
Nga Pae o te Maramatanga will involve wide engagement of researchers and teams from universities, wananga, Crown Research Institutes, museums, polytechnics, iwi research groups and commercial entities.
