Maori company helps Arab aid effort
Thousands of Halal ready to eat meals made by Aotearoa Fisheries subsidiary Prepared Foods are being airlifted out of Ohakea airbase each month bound for Gaza.
It’s part of the Salma project underwritten by Dubai’s ruler, United Arab Emirates Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which aims to generate one million pouches of ready to eat halal protein meals for emergency humanitarian relief in countries around the world.
Sheikh Mohammed’s own 747 aircraft are being used for the airlift.
The Maori-owned company yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dubai Government’s Awqaf and Minors’ Affairs Foundation.
It’s being described as the first business agreement of its kind the government has signed with a non-Islamic company.
Prepared Foods business development manager Craig Orr says the parties have agreed to exchange expertise and experiences to assist in the development of the Salma humanitarian relief program.
He says it’s the kind of program can be rolled out anywhere in the world.
