Tirikatene Sullivan style makes award finals
An exhibition which highlighted the contribution of former MP Whetu Tirikatene Sullivan to fashion in Aotearoa has made the finals of the 2015 New Zealand Museum Awards.
The show at MTG Hawkes Bay is up against exhibitions on Dunedin’s contribution to the First World War, 75 years of Air New Zealand, and the work of photographer Yvonne Todd.
Phillipa Tocker from Museums Aotearoa says 22 finalists were selected in the various categories from a strong field of entries, demonstrating how museums and galleries are engaging and entertaining audiences all over the country.
As well as being up for best exhibition, Whetu Tirikatere Sullivan – Travel in Style is also an entrant in the section for most innovative use of te reo Maori.
Others in that category include the Wellington City Gallery’s Johnson Witehira: Toituhi education project and MOTAT’s Welcome to the Machine – Nau mai ki te Mihini.
The winners will be announced in Dunedin on May 7.
