Miromoda has put out a call for Maori designers to compete for a catwalk spot in New Zealand Fashion Week at the end of August.

It will be the seventh year the Maori design promotion group has had a showcase at the event.

Twelve Maori designers were featured last year.

Categories in the competition include emerging, established and avante garde designs, as well as a T-shirt competition open to secondary schools, tertiary students and freelance designers.

The winners and runners-up of each category will get a chance to show, as well as be mentored by established designers and industry executives.

Miromoda says it is placing particular emphasis this year on commercial commitment by the designers.

Miromoda’s core business is to provide business opportunities for emerging and established Maori fashion designers to participate predominantly in the fashion and apparel industry and associated sectors including tourism, business development and the creative sectors.

Entries close on May 29.
