Hard smack for hard talk bishop
The Anglican Bishop of Te Waipounamu, John Gray, has been stripped of his role as vicar general to the Archbishop of Aotearoa because of his comments to Jews and Muslims.
Archbishop Brown Turei says the job of deputy and advisor has been given instead to Te Tai Tokerau Bishop Te Kitohi Pikaahu.
Bishop Gray remains in charge of the South Island Maori diocese.
The church has apologised after Bishop Gray told visiting Jews in Christchurch last month that the Holocaust "should have taught you a lesson".
At the same Hard talk session at an ecumunical function, he asked Muslim speakers what they were doing about the "slaughter of innocent people" by Muslims "under the banner of Isis and al Qaeda".
