Ngapuhi urged to keep Waitangi hui smooth
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is calling on Ngapuhi to be on its best behaviour as it welcomes manuhiri to Waitangi.
He says while the government’s approach to treaty settlements has created serious disunity within Ngapuhi, that’s a matter for the rest of the year, not for Waitangi Day commemorations.
Prime Minister John Key has said he expects a robust reception tomorrow, but Mr Peters hopes some of the chaos of previous years will be avoided.
