Greens co-leader Metiria Turei is rejecting a suggestion the Greens should use a change of leadership to become a purely environmental party.
Fresh from prescribing a way forward for the Treaty of Waitangi, economist Gareth Morgan is encouraging the Greens to use Russel Norman’s stepping down as a chance to drop its left wing agenda.
Ms Turei says the economist is suffering from Kim Dotcom disease, believing that making lots of money makes him a political expert.
She says he doesn’t understand, you can’t protect the environment without protecting the communities within it.
" There is absolutely no point us having a pristine and beautiful environment if we have starving kids in the street. And until he gets that through his head, anything he says about us is just ill informed opinion. And it is sad because I am sure he is quite a smart man. But until he understands, that one simple fundamental premise, he will never be a genuine political commentator about the Greens " says Ms Turei.
