Judge appoints CFRT members
A High Court judge has gone for new blood in an attempt to end a row that has paralysed the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.
The New Zealand Maori Council and the Federation of Maori Authorities have been unable to agree on who should represent Maori on the trust.
Justice Stephen Kos says he was concerned that the loss of Mangatu Incorporation chair Alan Haronga, whose term had expired, means the trust as a whole lacks anyone with his depth of talent in financial management.
He declined to reappoint Maori council co-chair Maanu Paul, whose term was also set to expire, appointing instead Auckland lawyer Paul Majurey and accountant Hinerangi Raumati-Tu’ua, a senior executive at Te Wananga o Aotearoa.
He also selected four alternates: educationalist Roimata Kirikiri, accountant Riria Te Kanawa, former Maori Trustee John Paki, and lawyer Simon Karipa.
