Backing for Maori farmers
Beef + Lamb New Zealand has woken up to the fact almost a fifth of pastoral land is in Maori hands, with much of it used for sheep and beef farming.
It has teamed up with the Federation of Maori Authorities to create two new Kaiarahi Ahuwhenua positions to deliver services to Maori farmers.
They’ve been filled by respected agri-business consultant William McMillan and Anaru Smiler, who has just finished developing a Maori agribusiness programme for the Ministry for Primary Industries.
Beef + Lamb chief executive Scott Champion says the aim is more productive and profitable Maori-owned sheep and beef farms.
