ATMs take on Matariki look

People getting money from ATMs in Auckland’s Queen St of Willis St in Wellington may find their hole in the wall has suddenly taken on a Maori flavour.
As a special Matariki exercise, the ANZ’S Maori and Pacifc Island staff networking group commissioned Arekatara Maihi of Ngati Whatua to create a wrap around design for three of their machines.
Maori relationships manager David Harrison says it was a highly successful collaboration.
"We gave him a kaupapa based on Matariki and he has got a fantastic orb shape design that represents the moving of the stars through the sky over time and beautiful designs that represent the past, the present and the future so it has a nice korero behind it and he is impressed with the way his design done on paper has been translated into a panel on the wall," he says.
Mr Harrison says the bank only intended the Matariki livery for July, but the public support for the project means it will probably stay up longer, and more designs could be commissioned.
