Northland runanga slammed for botched sacking
The Employment Relations Authority has ordered Te Runanga o Whaingaroa to pay $21,000 towards the legal costs of its sacked chief executive, on top of compensation for lost wages and distress.
The authority criticised the way the Northland-based board sacked Malenie Rose Catanuto in September last year, and the way it conducted its case against her.
Ms Catutano claimed she incurred additional time and expense defending the board's allegation that one of her supporters had covertly recorded the authority’s proceedings.
Authority member Rachel Larmer says it turned out the covert recordings were done without her knowledge by the wife of one of the current board members.
