Tainui gives landslip to council

Tainui Group Holdings has resolved a problem with fixing a popular riverbank walkway by gifting a 750 square metre section of land to the Hamilton City Council.
The section sits between two council-owned parcels.
The gift means the council will now be able to get on with repairing the path, which was closed in 2011 because of serious landslips.
The repair costs have been estimated at $750,000.
Council chief executive Barry Harris says the path, which also forms part of Te Awa, the Great New Zealand River Ride, should be reopened before summer.
