Conditional approval for dam

Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated is welcoming the decision by the board of inquiry into the proposed Ruataniwha Dam to impose stronger conditions on water quality in the Tukituki catchment.
The conditions mean the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is now reassessing whether it should continue with the ambitious irrigation project for central Hawkes Bay.
The iwi says it remains committed to working with council to promote the mauri of its waterways, the sustainability of its natural resources and the kaitiakitanga of its hapu for future generations.
Chair Ngahiwi Tomoana says those opposing the dam can breathe a little easier now.
