Whanau ora transforms sector
The Minister for Whanau Ora says her vision of comprehensive family-centred services is starting to influence the way other government agencies work.
Tariana Turia has appointed a body made up of all iwi in Te Waipoumamu to be the commissioning agent which decides on whanau ora spending in the South Island.
Spendng on Pacific Island providers will he overseen by the Pasifika Medical Association, and a commissioning body for the North Island will be named in the next couple of weeks.
Mrs Turia says she will be leaving whanau ora in good hands, both from fellow MPs and in government agencies.
"Whanau Ora has actually transformed much of the thinking in the public sector. It’s not only about the little bit we’ve got inside the whanau ora putea, the fact is when you look across to the Ministry for Social Development, if you look across into some of the DHBs, they are hiring what they call whanau ora workers. It’s happening," she says.
