More Maori for Otautahi rebuild
The number of Maori living in greater Christchurch has increased as younger workers move in to take part in the rebuild of the city.
Latest data sfrom the 2013 census hows while the population of the central city halved after the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, most people stayed in the region.
The population in the region including the Waimakariri and Selwyn districts. was up 2.6 percent on the last census in 2006, but the population in Christchurch city itself was down 2 percent.
There were more young men than young women, with men making up 52.3 percent of that age group.
The proportion of Maori increased 12.4 percent to reach 34,371.
