Regional reo a prize in iwi radio awards

Entries are open for the biennial iwi radio awards, organiser Erana Reedy from Radio Ngati Porou says next month’s event at the Rotorua Holiday Inn will be a chance to celebrate the contributions the stations make to their communities.
The evening will be dedicated the the memory of the late Parekura Horomia, who a Maori affairs minister did much to champion language initiatives.
The 17 award categories include a new award put up by Ngati Porou and Aitanga a Hauiti, the Parekura Horomia Reo a Iwi Award.
"A lot of us have a strong connection to our people in terms of the service we provide and the korero and information we impart, and also we have a role in ensuring that the dialects in the valleys and the communities we work with also permeate our airwaves,," Ms Reedy says.
Another new award will be given for the best comedy moment or series on iwi radio.
