Steam cleaned house rededicated

Residents of Whakarewarewa have rededicated their meeting house, which was closed last year because of damage from geothermal activity.
Spokesperson Watu Mihinui says the damage to Wahiao was discovered last June when the power failed, and the tukutuku panels around the switchboard were found to be saturated with moisture.
GNS scientists, geotechnical engineers and conservators from the Historic Places Trust were called in to identify the cause of the damage.
Mrs Mihinui says because the damage was caused over a long period by a geothermal vent under the house, there was no insurance pay-out.
