Rurawhe confirmed as Labour nominee

The Labour Party has confirmed former Ngati Apa chair Adrian Rurawhe as its candidate for Te Tai Hauauru at next year's election.
The 52-year-old is the great-grandson of Ratana movement founder Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana, and the grandson of Matiu and Iriaka Ratana, who both held the Western Maori seat for Labour.
He is currently managing a Maori research centre in Whanganui.
Mr Rurawhe was the only candidate after Soraya Peke-Mason, Labour’s 2011 candidate, stepped aside.
She will seek a place on the party list.
Mr Rurawhe says he won’t stand on the list because he wants a mandate from the electorate.
The Maori Party candidate is Chris McKenzie from Ngati Raukawa.
