Cunliffe keen on Maori mandate
Labour leader David Cunliffe says the party needs to get a mandate from Maori.
Mr Cunliffe expects 2014 to start fast and furious and be a roller coaster ride until the election.
He says the party is fielding strong candidates in all the Maori seats.
"I think it’s really important if we're going to be a government for all New Zealanders that we walk the talk on the treaty partnership. So we really want to have a very strong mandate from Maori in terms of being part of the next government and getting solidly in behind the Labour-led government that we're going to have next year. We are going to field strong candidates in every electorate and we are going to be targeting the Maori Party vote as part of a turnout strategy which gets on the doorstep of every Kiwi family and says there's a better alternative," Mr Cunliffe says.
He says people will see an immediate change, with an increase in the minimum wage, rolling back National’s attacks on workers’ rights and beneficiaries
