Hapi happy with Te Aute takeover

The outgoing chair of Te Aute Trust, which manages the Hawkes Bay Maori boarding schools Te Aute and Hukarere, is welcoming a takeover by the Anglican Church.
The board will be run by the trustees of St Johns College Trust Board for the next three years.
Robin Hapi says the previous board has spent the past three years trying to stabilise the finances of the historic schools and get enrolments up.
He says both schools have new principals, and Te Aute has a new board and new hostel manager.
"This arrangement that has been negotiated is a way forward, it brings in the financial support tht Te Aute Trust Board has needed for such a long time, and enables the orderly management of Te Aute Trust Board operations to secure the future viabilty of Te Aute College and Hukarere College, so it's a great outcome," Mr Hapi says.
Te Aute can be seen as a 160 year collaboration between Hawkes Bay hapu Ngai Whatu i apiti, the Anglican church and the crown.
