A joint venture geothermal power station between Mighty River Power and Maori investor Tauhara North No2 Trust is to shut down for repairs.
Chair William Meek says geothermal fluids have damaged the turbine blades at the 140 Megawatt Nga Awa Purua installation.
It will be down for one or two weeks for assessment of the problem, with the aim of replacing the $15 million blade in 2015.
He says with weak demand and low wholesale prices it’s a good time to do the shut-down.
