Fantail stars in line for awards
Taupo teenager Jahalis Ngamotu has been nominated for Best Actor in the New Zealand Film Awards for his silver screen debut.
He plays a leading role in Fantail, a low budget feature scripted by Sophie Henderson, who plays his sister.
Director Curtis Vowell says Ngamotu stood out from his Tauhara College peers during the audition, and was someone who secretly works very hard but pretends he doesn't.
The other nominees are singer turned Mount Zion star Stan Walker and British actor Hugh Laurie, who starred in Mister Pip.
Fantail has been nominated for eight awards including best director, best actress and best screenplay.
The winners will be announced on December 10.
