Sing along reo a hit with tots

The creator of Te Reo Singalong books is thrilled at winning the print category of this years Te Taura Whiri awards.
Sharon Holt says as a non-Maori, it’s a bonus to be recognised by the people of the culture she is working in.
The Hamilton woman got the idea several years ago while she was learning te reo Maori at Te Wananga o Aotearoa and Te Ataarangi while also working in a kindergarten.
She says many teachers in mainstream schools were reluctant to use the resources they did have, so she devised something that was easier and filled a gap in the market.
"There’s this really big gap between the single word resources and the full on Maori translation of a story or a Maori story, and there’s not very much in between with simple sentences, so I did it for those two reasons, and with the sing along it makes It easier for everyone and all the interactions, and they’re also very popular in schools now," Ms Holt says.
