Ideology costing jobs
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says blind ideology to failed financial models is costing New Zealand jobs.
Two sites with mainly Maori workforces has closed in the past week, Tachikawa Forest Products in Rotorua and the Silver Fern Farms fellmongery in Shannon.
Mr Peters says they are both essential rural industries based on adding value to raw materials, and the government is sitting by and letting it happen.
"Half the problem is the dollar is horribly over-inflated, it’s past 85 cents US heading off to 90, to new highs, and they are paralysed, because of their blind ideology and their arrogant support of the financial markets, into doing nothing while real people lose real jobs and lose their hopes and livelihoods, and towns die. Really, really sad," he says.
