Horomona Horo picked for Womex
For the first time in more than a decade, New Zealand will be represented at the annual World Music Expo.
Taonga puoro master Horomona Horo and his group Waiora is one of 36 acts out of 800 applicants chosen to perform at Womex in Cardiff in October.
Horo is trying to finish recording his first album before he goes.
In 2001 Horo came to the attention of the late Hirini Melbourne and Richard Nunns, who led the revival of traditional Maori instruments, and under their mentoring he has become one of the most significant contributors to the field.
Horo is currently working with composer Ross Harris, the New Zealand String Quartet and Voices NZ Choir on a new work for the 2015 International Festival.
