Kauri memorial for Sir Paul Reeves

A tree falls and another rises.
A memorial has been dedicated in the Millennium Kauri Forest to the late Governor General, Sir Paul Reeves.
Sir Paul, who belonged to the Puketapu hapū of Te Atiawa, was a founding patron of the Waipoua Forest Trust, and in 2000 helped launch the scheme to replant land on Waipoua’s southern edge.
Trust Chair Alex Nathan says among the trees in the grove around the memorial plaque are the 14 saplings used to line the entrance to the Auckland Cathedral for Sir Paul’s funeral in 2011.
He says Sir Paul was a great rangatira who was also a man of the people.
