Deal to allow kapa haka broadccasts

Aotearoa Kapa Haka Ltd has reached an agreement with Maori Television that will allow a delayed broadcast of highlights from the primary schools national kappa haka competition in November.
Aotearoa spokesperson Willie Te Aho says the company, which is the commercial arm of Te Matatini, will film the competition and live screen it on the internet.
Maori Television will then make a programme from the footage as well as offer video on demand from its website.
"We’re really excited to have reached that agreement. It means that the intellectual property is owned by the national committee, and that is subject to the consent of the groups who are the ultimate owners of the material that they develop," Mr Te Aho says.
