Audit report could be positive for Jones
Labour MP Shane Jones looks set for a return to the front benches.
The Auditor General has given affected parties a draft report on a decision Mr Jones made as Associate Immigration Minister to allow the citizenship application of Chinese business man William Yan, also known as Bill Liu.
Mr Jones says it’s with his lawyer and he will not comment until the final report is out.
Some media reported Mr Jones had been cleared of any illegality.
Officials who advised against the decision had Mr Yan prosecuted for making false statements on immigration papers.
Labour leader David Shearer stood Mr Jones down and called in the Audit Office the day before the High Court found Mr Yan not guilty, and he has held off a reshuffle of his team until the result is out.
