Hapū offered high tech help for conservation projects
The Department of Conservation wants to improve the way iwi and hapū run conservation projects.
It's extending to Māori organisations the project management training workshops first developed for non-profit community groups.
Duane Wilkins, its national lead for geospatial information, says the workshops include training in mapping software from United States vendor ESRI which is now the standard tool for managing such projects.
Māori conservation projects include the restoration of natural areas, pest control, species recovery, water quality projects and native plantings.
Successful workshops have already been held in Wellington, Hastings and Rotorua and Whangarei.
