Tainui chair stood down
The on-going battle for control of Waikato-Tainui’s political leadership has flared up again with the tribal parliament suspending its chair Tania Martin.
Te Kauhanganui met late into yesterday evening as it considered a letter from King Tuheitia calling on the leadership to stand down because of continued in-fighting.
The king wants the former chair of the tribe’s Te Ara Taura executive, Tukoroirangi Morgan, to replace Mrs Martin.
He says the on-going dispute has cost the tribe dearly in legal costs.
Mr Morgan says he is concerned the tribe continues to be dysfunctional, and it needs to change the way it does business.
