Ngāi Tahu holds its hui ā tau this weekend, turning what started as an annual discussion about claim issues into a three-day celebration of tribal identity.
A ceasefire in hostilities among tribal factions in the wake of the Christchurch earthquakes means some of the disruptions of recent years are unlikely to mar the formal sessions.
The rest of the time the Lincoln University venue will resound to the sound of kapa haka, artist workshops, sports, kai and craft stalls, and profiles of the programmes and activities Ngāi Tahu is funding and promoting.
