Kura lays out agenda for future
One of the Christchurch Maori immersion schools slated for merger has made its case against the move to Education Minister Hekia Parata.
Ms Parata is spending time in the city meeting with teachers, boards and communities affected by the plan to close 13 schools and merge 26 others.
Melanie Riwai Couch from Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Whanau Tahi says the kura yesterday gave the minister a snapshot of its plans.
She says rather than merge with the city's other kura, it wants to increase use of its facilities, establish an early childhood education centre, and after school homework centre and evening courses, as well as housing a social services and learning support unit.
