Tainui CEO quits Mighty River board
Tainui’s rift with the government over asset sales is deepening with its chief executive quitting the board of Mighty River Power.
Parekawhia Mclean said her resignation as an independent director was in the best interests of both Mighty River Power and Waikato-Tainui.
She said the decision was personal.
Mighty River, which runs nine hydro power stations on the Waikato River, is the first of the state owned power companies the Government intends to partially privatise.
This week Tukoroirangi Morgan, who has taken up the role of spokesperson for King Tuheitia after giving up his attempt to be reelected to the tribal executive, said he would no longer be working as a Crown facilitator on other tribes’ treaty claims because of the ongoing row over recognition of Maori water rights.
