Te Tau Ihu divided over salmon farm
Top of the South Island iwi are divided over the application for expansion of salmon farming in the Marlborough Sounds.
Guardians of the Sounds is organising the protest next week, starting with a hikoi from Waikawa Marae to Waikawa Bay and a flotilla out to King Salmon’s proposed third farm site in Tory Channel.
Protest co-ordinator Peter Beech says some iwi members support the protest.
But Glenice Paine, the chair of Te Atiawa Manawhenua Ki Te Tau Ihu Trust, says the trust initially opposed the expansion, but switched to support last month after talking with the company.
She says it will hold a meeting at Waikawa Marae tomorrow to explain the decision.
