Storyboards give insight to Taranaki history
New signs are giving visitors to Taranaki new insights into the region’s landmarks.
Coordinator Amokura Panoho says the first three storyboards in the Te Ara Puawai – The Pathway to Enlightenment series went up yesterday on the walkway alongside the Te Hanui Stream.
She says Ngati Te Whiti hapu, with backing from local bodies and community trusts, wants to keep the Maori origins and significance of the region’s landmarks alive.
Hapu members are also looking at developing a guided tour of the routes and the historic sites.
Ms Panoho says there has been interest from other regions in creating similar signs.
