The state coal miner has announced that falling world coal prices means it is suspending operation at its Spring Creek mine near Greymouth, and also axing jobs at Huntly East and in its Christchurch head office.
Parekura Horomia says that is hundreds of jobs going, on top of the dozens every week that are disappearing in towns and cities the length and breadth of the country, forcing whanau to shift to Australia for work.
