Maori presence at Museumsuferfest
Maori made an impact in Germany last weekend at the Frankfurt Museumsuferfest – even if they had to use Dutch ring-ins.
A team of carvers and weavers from Te Paia, the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, were at the largest public festival in Europe, along with Warren Maxwell and other musicians.
Nga Waka Federation chair Robert Gabel was there to oversee the Dutch crew of Te Hono ki Aotearoa, the waka based at Leiden in Holland.
He says with a few lessons on paddling technique and well as tips on Maori pronunciation, the kai hoe did well.
Many of the Maori participants will be back in October for the Frankfurt Book Fair, which caps a year long New Zealand at Frankfurt programme showcasing the best of New Zealand arts, culture and cuisine.
