Māori health advocate ready for election bash
A Māori health leader is calling out National Party leader Chris Luxon for giving Māori the election year bash.
Lady Tureiti Moxon from Kirikiriroa-based Te Kōhao Health says National’s policy to do away with the new Maori health authority, Te Aka Whai Ora, is an attempt to signal to the electorate that Maori are getting something more than other New Zealanders.
“We’re not getting more than everybody else. What we’re saying is we want the same as everybody else. We want to participate in decisions that affect us. We want to co-govern and we’ve been doing it for quite some time now and here we have election year and Maori get the bash, left, right and centre,” she says.
