Mangere Centre ready for flood relief

Mangere MP Aupito William Sio says people shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help at the relief centres set up in response to Friday’s devastating floods.
Mr Sio has been part of efforts to set up a centre in the Mangere War Memoria Hall, rather than people having to go to the council’s existing relief centre in Manurewa.
It’s now moved to the larger Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Leisure Centre in Mascot Avenue.
He says the community has come together to help those in need.
“People who need help, they’ve just got to come through. I don’t want anybody being afraid to ask and being afraid of whakama. There’s people there, clinicians, civil defence, victim support, housing, MSD, the doctors and nurses, there’s food , a cup of tea, there will be a caring auntie there just to talk to you,” Mr Sio says.
