Matauranga Māori input to Tauranga Council HQ
Tauranga City Council and developer Willis Bond are working with mana whenua to ensure the council’s new headquarters incorporate matauranga Māori principles.
The 10,000 square metre Warren and Mahoney-designed building will be the largest mass timber office building in New Zealand.
Engineered timber in place of most traditional concrete and steel elements, with a view to reducing the carbon emitted through the manufacturing, transportation and installation of building materials and components to its lowest possible point.
The building also features rainwater harvesting, electric vehicle charging and facilities that encourage active transport options.
Commission chair Anne Tolley says sustainable outcomes were front of mind when considering a new, purpose-built office space.
Construction of the building is expected to commence in late-2022 and be completed before the end of 2024
